Rising above the remote Nar–Phu Valley, Mt. Himlung Himal (7,126 m) is among Nepal’s most beautiful and approachable 7,000-meter peaks — an ideal objective for mountaineers preparing for 8,000 m climbs such as Manaslu, Cho Oyu, or Everest.
Located in the Peri Damodar Range, northeast of the Annapurna massif and close to the Tibetan border, the Himlung Himal Expedition blends high-altitude adventure with rich cultural immersion. The journey begins on the Annapurna Circuit Trail, diverging at Koto to enter the restricted Nar–Phu Valley — a region of ancient Buddhist monasteries, timeless
stone villages, and dramatic mountain scenery.
First opened for climbing in 1992, Himlung Himal was summited the same year by a Japanese expedition. Since then, it has gained a reputation as a safe, scenic, and moderately challenging peak — ideal for climbers progressing toward higher goals. With its improved route via the Kari Kobler line (post-2013), the mountain now offers manageable snow and ice slopes, minimal objective hazards, and consistent summit success rates.
Climbers are rewarded with breathtaking views of Manaslu (8,163 m),Annapurna II (7,937 m), Ratna Chuli (7,035 m), Gyaji Khang (7,074 m), and the Tibetan plateau — making this expedition a rewarding balance of technical experience, cultural exploration, and Himalayan grandeur.
With Royal Orchid Treks & Expedition, every detail — from permits and logistics to safety and acclimatization — is meticulously managed by our professional Sherpa team. Our structured plan ensures you climb confidently, safely, and with the best chance of reaching the summit.
Route Highlights – Himlung Himal Expedition (7,126 m)
Base Camp – 4,900 m
Positioned on an open glacial moraine with sweeping views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, Himlung Base Camp serves as the primary staging ground for the expedition. The camp is fully equipped with personal tents, a heated dining tent, kitchen facilities, and communication support — creating a comfortable and efficient operational hub.
Camp I – 5,450 m
Reached after a steady ascent over moderate snow slopes, Camp I is used for acclimatization rotations and early load carries. Its location provides a secure platform for climbers to adapt to higher altitude while preparing for the upper mountain.
Camp II – 6,000 m
Set on a broad and gently sloping snow plateau, Camp II offers excellent positioning for the upper route. This camp acts as a forward base where climbers rest, refuel, and prepare their gear before moving toward the higher reaches of the mountain.
Camp III – 6,350 m
Camp III, the designated Summit Camp, sits just below the final steep ice section. This high camp provides direct access to the summit ridge and serves as the launch point for the early- morning summit bid. Sherpa guides prepare the fixed lines and finalize route safety from this point.
Summit – 7,126 m
The final climb features moderate snow and ice slopes, leading to the summit of Himlung Himal — one of the most striking viewpoints in the Peri Damodar Range. From the top, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramas of Manaslu, Annapurna II, Ratna Chuli, Gyaji Kang, and the vast Tibetan plateau stretching to the horizon.
