Standing proudly at 7,161 m (23,494 ft), Mt. Pumori—meaning “Unmarried Daughter” in the Sherpa language—rises above the Khumbu Valley, just 8.5 km west of Mt. Everest. Its sharply defined pyramid profile dominates the skyline from Kala Patthar and is often called “Everest’s Daughter.”
The Southeast Ridge Route offers a superb technical 7000 m climb that combines steep snow and ice (55°–70°) with exposed ridgelines and spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and the Tibetan Plateau. First summited in 1962 by a German-Swiss team, Pumori quickly earned a reputation as one of the Himalaya’s most beautiful yet demanding peaks—ideal for climbers preparing for future 8000 m expeditions such as Everest or Cho Oyu.
The ascent requires solid high-altitude experience, strong endurance, and sound mountaineering skills. With careful acclimatization, fixed ropes, and full professional support from Royal Orchid Treks & Expedition, this climb offers a thrilling mix of technical challenge, Sherpa culture, and classic Himalayan scenery in the world’s most legendary mountain region.

Route Highlights – Mt. Pumori Expedition (7,161 m)
Base Camp – 5,220 m
Set beside the Khumbu Glacier with commanding views of Pumori, Everest, and Lingtren, Base Camp serves as the central operations hub. The camp is fully equipped with personal tents, a heated dining tent, kitchen facilities, and communication systems to support the climbing period.
Camp I – 5,700 m
Reached after ascending steep moraine ridges and moderate ice slopes, Camp I is the first major acclimatization point. This camp provides a stable platform for rotation climbs and early load carries, laying the foundation for the upper mountain strategy.
Camp II – 6,200 m
Positioned on a broad snow shoulder, Camp II marks the beginning of the technical sections on Pumori. Climbers navigate steeper slopes up to 55°, protected by fixed ropes installed by the Sherpa team. This camp offers direct access to the exposed upper ridge.
Camp III – 6,500 m
The high camp sits just below the final summit ridge and serves as the launch point for the summit push. From here, climbers prepare for the demanding pre-dawn ascent through mixed snow and ice terrain that defines Pumori’s upper slopes.
Summit – 7,161 m
The final climb follows an exposed ridge of snow and ice leading to Pumori’s iconic pyramid summit — one of the most striking viewpoints in the Himalayas. From the top, climbers are rewarded with sweeping panoramas of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and the entire Khumbu Valley.
